Lately...

I realize I haven't updated my blog in about a week, I guess. I think I've fallen into more of a routine and so nothing seems worth blogging during the week.  Last week seemed like a long week, especially since I'm waiting for my mom to arrive (this Friday!!!).  The only bit of accomplishment is that I have now been here for over half my time.  Doesn't seem real but I'm already 4 days into the second half! I'll be home before I know it...

This past weekend, I didn't travel as I have a lot of BIG trips coming up.  Saturday I took the bus into town and had lunch with a missionary family from the states.  One of my friends from church growing up lived with this family for a year in Luxembourg.  She was so kind to send the Reynolds a message about me and that I was in Luxembourg.  Despite the Reynold's lives being very up in the air right now, they took time on Saturday to take me to lunch.  The conversation was so enjoyable.  It was nice to talk to someone who understands both sides (European and American).  Having spent the last couple years on and off in the states it was very fresh in their minds.  We talked a lot about how much European children differ from American children (or better yet how parents differ).  I'm glad to know it just wasn't my observation.  Lunch with the Reynolds was a wonderful way to spend part of my Saturday!

Here's some more pics of downtown Lux...

After lunch, I met Dominika (an au pair from Poland) for some shopping! It was nice to walk around with her and exchange stories.

However the weather was not nice! It has gotten so cold here! Saturday when I left it was about 30 degrees!!! Most of you who know me well know that I HATE cold weather.  At home I wouldn't get out in 30 degree weather, but it is Europe so I will endure the cold to see and do all that I can!

Saturday night I went with Michael and the girls and several other of their friends to "American" Halloween.  The American Society of Luxembourg puts on "Halloween" for the children of Luxembourg.  In order to participate you have to purchase a ticket and then you are allowed to go to the houses that have agreed to be part of the event.  The houses were all marked with a balloon and a glow stick.  The girls were dressed up as a witch and a wizard.  They went around to each house and collected American candy! After they had visited every house we went back to one of their friends house to have some tea and let the kids look at their candy! All the parents wanted an explanation of all the American candy (milk duds, reeses pieces, whoppers, almond joy, three musketeers).  Good thing I'm such an expert on American candy.  It was a really enjoyable night, although their view of American Halloween is fairly limited.

Sunday I slept in a little bit and then picked up Dominika and Sabina.  We went to Metz, France (about 45 minutes away).  We walked around for awhile and ate lunch, but really there wasn't much open on Sunday.  Unfortunately most things are closed on Sunday.  We enjoyed wandering the streets a bit and just feeling like we were "away."

After we left Metz, we got some hot chocolate in downtown Lux.  But the last thing we did was definitely the best.  There is a thermal spa in Mondorf.  It is a huge, heated swimming pool with jets all around the edge! It was both inside and outside.  Simply amazing.  It was so relaxing!! I could have stayed in there forever!

Ended the weekend with a sore throat.  Praying it goes away soon because my mom will be here Friday!

Today I made some muffins and Charlotte was my helper! She always wants to "do some cookin" so today I let her help! She was a great listener and a good helper!
