They're not pants... they're trousers!

SO this will be a post dedicated to all the strange words they use in "British English" vs. "American English"

Last night I told Francesca that her pants were on backwards... to which she replied they're not pants they're trousers... oh sorry!

(British on the left ... American on the right)

Mosi = mosquito
Laurie = truck
Motorway = highway
Motorbike = motorcycle
Tidy Up = Clean Up/ Pick Up
Petrol = Gasoline
Mind you head = watch your head
Hair Bubble = ponytail
Pants = underware
Trousers = pants
Nappy = Diaper
Push Chair = Stroller
Sleep = Nap
Well Done = Good Job
Sofa = couches
Jumper = hoodie/jacket
Bit = little
Biscuits = cookies

They also use words like brilliant and lovely instead of awesome and nice.

I know there are more... I will try to write them down as I hear them and add to the list tomorrow.

Tomorrow at noon we are going to France... the Burgundy region.  I'm looking forward to getting out for a few days! I may or may not have internet so if you don't hear from me or I don't respond to emails / facebook you'll know why! I will however catch up on Sunday at the latest!

Thanks for following along (there are more of you than I realized)! Keep posting comments... I LOVE them! And have a fabulous weekend!

Wow What an Adjustment

So it all finally sunk in this week... and I found myself wondering what I had done?  I will spare you most of the details, but this week has been a learning and growing experience for sure!!

Monday through Wednesday has been spent with the kids and the French speaking nanny.  I really am still amazed at how much communication we can do without a common language.  Francesca started school today!  That makes the day a little bit more peaceful! I took Alex on a walk today which was so nice.  I also made a leg of lamb for the first time in my life.... LOL!  Anne-Marie asked me to because it takes a long time to cook (sort of like a roast) and she is at work today.  I was happy to take on the challenge.  I put it in a big pot and added lots of vegetables and stock, herbs and garlic... and a little wine of course.  It will hopefully turn out great... I'll let you know.  Michael was kind to buy me some comfort food at the grocery store last night.  He even bought me some Diet Coke!! I haven't had any since I left... can you believe that?  It is hard to believe.  He bought me some chips and a few other American staples like peanut butter ;)

We are going to France this weekend to their other house.  It will be nice to get out and explore some more.  I'm also working on finding some friends over here which would be such a great addition and very much needed!

Skype is the most wonderful thing! I'm pretty sure I would be so lost without it.  It is good to be able to talk to my mom and other friends for free.

Thanks for following me along on this journey... and a journey it is.

**** Well the lamb was a success... they say I can do it again ;)

Waffles. (I hate making titles...)

Ok I know some of you have been waiting for a post... so even though I'm tired and want to go to bed... I'll update quickly.

Saturday I went into town Luxembourg, Luxembourg.  It was a very nice town... I took the bus from Niederdonven to Luxembourg.  When I got on the bus I didn't know how much it cost... I had some euros so I tried to give him this one coin... no... so I held out what I had.  He seemed just as confused as I was... so I got to ride the bus for free.  Guess it pays to be a little clueless sometimes.  So I rode the bus for about 45 minutes and made it to Luxembourg.  I actually got off at the right stop! I then proceeded to wander around the city square for many hours.  It reminded me on say downtown Chicago a bit... not as big... but with all the shops (Louie Vuitton and such...).  Nothing much I could afford.  There was an H&M but it looked like ours in America so where's the fun in that?  I didn't hear much English in my wanderings so that was weird.  I had a Belgium waffle covered in whip cream and chocolate sauce... AMAZING.  I also had some pasta... better left to the Italians.  It wasn't bad but wasn't anything amazing either.  I had fun taking in all the sights and looking around... then it was back to Niederdonven.  I got back about 6:15 and had a relaxing evening at the house.

Sunday I got up and went for a run... it is very hilly here so that will take some getting used to.  Other than that Sunday was just a laid back sort of day.  I read and hung out with the family a bit.  I probably shouldn't wait so long to update because I forgot... anyway... nothing of importance really.

Today I helped out with the kids all day with the French speaking nanny... strange how well we communicate without actual language.  I'm looking forward to school starting Wednesday that should put more of a rhythm into the weeks and be a little less hectic.  Thanks for reading... more tomorrow when I'm not so tired.  Oh and pics tomorrow as well.  Which by the time I get around to it will probably still be in the middle of the night there...
