They're not pants... they're trousers!

SO this will be a post dedicated to all the strange words they use in "British English" vs. "American English"

Last night I told Francesca that her pants were on backwards... to which she replied they're not pants they're trousers... oh sorry!

(British on the left ... American on the right)

Mosi = mosquito
Laurie = truck
Motorway = highway
Motorbike = motorcycle
Tidy Up = Clean Up/ Pick Up
Petrol = Gasoline
Mind you head = watch your head
Hair Bubble = ponytail
Pants = underware
Trousers = pants
Nappy = Diaper
Push Chair = Stroller
Sleep = Nap
Well Done = Good Job
Sofa = couches
Jumper = hoodie/jacket
Bit = little
Biscuits = cookies

They also use words like brilliant and lovely instead of awesome and nice.

I know there are more... I will try to write them down as I hear them and add to the list tomorrow.

Tomorrow at noon we are going to France... the Burgundy region.  I'm looking forward to getting out for a few days! I may or may not have internet so if you don't hear from me or I don't respond to emails / facebook you'll know why! I will however catch up on Sunday at the latest!

Thanks for following along (there are more of you than I realized)! Keep posting comments... I LOVE them! And have a fabulous weekend!

I listened to these books that were by a British author and when the main character is shopping for stuff for her baby it was interesting to hear the different words. In the book they called a stroller a "pram".

It's also interesting to compare words like that just among the different regions in America. Like I met these people from Wisconsin once that called the drinking fountain or water fountain a "bubbler". Silly people. Ha!

I love that Francesca's pants were on backward and she was more concerned with correcting you to call them trousers. :)

My grandfather was from England and some of those words are ones that I grew up with because that's what my mom learned from her dad. I hope you do post some more.
